Discover How Vitamin C Helps Fight Premature Aging and Boost Your Immune System!

What It Does in the Body

Vitamin C is an effective weapon to fight the effects of premature aging.

As we age, for example, the collagen content of our skin dimishes, resulting in a loss of firmness and suppleness over time.

Enter the miracle of vitamin C.

It aids in the growth and repair of various body tissues like skin, scar tissue, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels.

It is essential for wound healing, and healthy bones, teeth and cartilage.

It's also a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants are nutrients that help our bodies fight off the effects of free radicals, which are by-products produced when our bodies turn food into energy.

Vitamin C

According to the National Institutes of Health, premature aging largely results from the build-up of these free radicals in our bodies. Free radicals have also been linked to the development of cancer, heart disease and arthritis.

A potent immune booster, Vitamin C also:
  • Helps the body ward off bacterial infection that causes periodontal disease
  • Helps lessen the intensity of cold and flu symptoms
  • Helps guard against sinus infection and inflammation

Food Sources of Vitamin C

Green Bell peppers are one of the richest sources that you'll find. Other foods rich in this nutrient include:

  • Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons and limes
  • Strawberries, raspberries, cranberries and blueberries
  • Canteloupe, papaya, mango and watermelon
  • Tomatoes
  • Broccoli, cabbage, winter squash and brussel sprouts
  • Dark leafy greens like turnip greens, kale and collard greens.

One Caveat

Most experts agree that vitamin C is non-toxic. However, a recent study suggested that diabetics, who take more than 250 mg/day of this vitamin in supplement form may do themselves more harm than good. This seems to be the case only with some diabetics, and experts are not quite sure as to why.

So the jury is still out on this one. We suggest that if you are diabetic, you get a green light from your physician before taking a vitamin C supplement in any dosage.

Your best bet may be to stick to food sources only of this nutrient. As we've said many times, it's better to be safe than sorry.

To Your Health!
